Wall Of Life - Kevin - Fifty Lives

Tissue Donor

Kevin and I celebrated our 13th anniversary just before he died. We met in high school, dated through college, and were married in September 2000. If there was one thing Kevin loved, it was being a father. We have three kids, Olivia, Todd and Rylie. They were 9, 5 and 4 years old at the time he died. Kevin was an amazing husband and dad. We loved spending time together, whether it was spending time as a family camping with friends, taking motorcycle rides, trips to the zoo, or just being together at home.

Along with his family, community service and giving back to his community was very important to Kevin. It was a belief instilled in him as a child, and he was very proud to join the Florida-Flatrock Volunteer Fire Department in 2004. Kevin was very active in the fire service and was thrilled to receive the Top Dog Award at the 2013 Northwestern Ohio Volunteer Firemen’s Association Antique Fire Muster. Besides his service to the fire department, Kevin was also proud of serving for several years on the Village Council in Florida, Ohio, where he, Jen and the kids lived. He also served as mayor of Florida from 2008 to 2009.

Kevin died on October 14, 2013, after the ladder he was on collapsed at his home several days earlier. His belief in helping others lived on after his death as he became a tissue donor, helping others have fulfilling lives. This was something he chose to do before his death, and it was something that helped me cope in the days after, realizing that at least something positive came out of something so horrible. He was able to donate 116 grafts, and as of now 94 of those have been distributed. We miss Kevin so much every day, but knowing how many people he has impacted through his donation has been a huge source of pride and comfort to us since his death.
