Tell us about the person you’re most grateful to, and why: I have so many amazing friends and such a wonderful family, but for the purpose of the mission of Fify Lives I have one dear friend in mind. Her name is Tina. I met her when she was my supervisor at work and she was pregnant with her son, Michael. In the next few years we grew close as friends and experienced being pregnant together and raising our little ones together. Even after I was no longer working with her we remained close friends. When Michael was 10 I received a frantic call from Tina saying that Michael had been killed by a car. I will NEVER forget that day. As I write this my blood runs cold and I have the same sick feeling as when I received that call. He was hit by a car and was being kept alive by machines at Dayton Children’s. Tina and her husband had to make the difficult decision to let him go, and allow his organs to be used to save other children’s lives. They were desperate to have Michael live and wake up, but faced the reality that he was not going to and they could help other desperate parents. They have had the privelege of knowing some of the stories of people who have benefited from their tragedy and this has brought them joy and peace. Aside from being one of my best friends, Tina is a pillar in the community, always a loving and generous person. She has taught me about being a mother and a friend and I cannot imagine my life without her and her support. She has faced so many losses and difficult times in the years I have known her but she remains a gentle spirit and a loving friend, wife and mother-and recently Grandmother! In the spirit of what your organization stands for I would say Tina embodies who anyone would be grateful to have in their lives.

Thanks, Rachelle for your entry and best of luck to you.

Share Your Gratitude Entry Spotlight: Heather H.

Heather H. entered our Share Your Gratitude contest for a chance to win 2 iPads. Have you? Here’s her entry:

Tell us about the person you’re most grateful to, and why: When asked who I am most grateful for I always have to reply with two answers neither of whose name I know. The first is my cornea donor who gave me the gift of sight in July 2005. Without their precious gift I would see in a world of fog and shadows they restored sight to my seeing eye and I am eternally grateful. The other person I am most grateful for is my kidney and pancreas donor who gave me the gift of renewed life, of a life without diabetes, of a life without dialysis in July 2007. I never knew life without type 1 diabetes until that miraculous day I had been a diabetic since age 2 my transplant was two months before my 32nd birthday! Dialysis had been a tough road for 7 years of my life and this incredible gift feed me! I have no words to describe how it feels to live miracles everyday, or the unending waves of gratitude I experience daily, but I will never stop trying to put my feelings into words! I write this with tears streaming down my face always feeling like thank you is hardly enough to thank those who lost their lives and in turn enriched mine in ways words could never say! My donors live on through me and I think of them every day hoping and praying one day I learn more about my giver of sight, my giver of renewed life! My Angels, my Heroes to you I am grateful forever and for always!! Grateful Recipient, Heather H.

Thanks, Heather for your entry and best of luck to you.

Share Your Gratitude Entry Spotlight: David H.

David H. entered our Share Your Gratitude contest for a chance to win 2 iPads. Have you? Here’s his entry:

Tell us about the person you’re most grateful to, and why: The donor family which made the utilimate sacrifice in providng my life saving, second chance kidney.. After ten years of kidney dialysis I received my kidney transplant in June of 09 at the UCLA Medical Center. Since that time I have used my second chance to found the Seattle Chapter of TRIO to support other patients in treatment, waiting for or have received an organ transplant. I use my time to visit patients in hospitals, support the transplant nurses through awarness events, speak weekly and train other advocates and receipients seeking to tell their stories. I never met the donor family but I keep the memory of their loved one alive planting a tree in their memory every year, participating in seasonal cycling and awareness events and telling their story during speaking engagements. I would use the IPAD during my speaking engagements and to display images of other donors and receipients. Thank you for your time and this opportunity.

Thanks, David for your entry and best of luck to you.
