Tell us about the person you’re most grateful to, and why: I have so many amazing friends and such a wonderful family, but for the purpose of the mission of Fify Lives I have one dear friend in mind. Her name is Tina. I met her when she was my supervisor at work and she was pregnant with her son, Michael. In the next few years we grew close as friends and experienced being pregnant together and raising our little ones together. Even after I was no longer working with her we remained close friends. When Michael was 10 I received a frantic call from Tina saying that Michael had been killed by a car. I will NEVER forget that day. As I write this my blood runs cold and I have the same sick feeling as when I received that call. He was hit by a car and was being kept alive by machines at Dayton Children’s. Tina and her husband had to make the difficult decision to let him go, and allow his organs to be used to save other children’s lives. They were desperate to have Michael live and wake up, but faced the reality that he was not going to and they could help other desperate parents. They have had the privelege of knowing some of the stories of people who have benefited from their tragedy and this has brought them joy and peace. Aside from being one of my best friends, Tina is a pillar in the community, always a loving and generous person. She has taught me about being a mother and a friend and I cannot imagine my life without her and her support. She has faced so many losses and difficult times in the years I have known her but she remains a gentle spirit and a loving friend, wife and mother-and recently Grandmother! In the spirit of what your organization stands for I would say Tina embodies who anyone would be grateful to have in their lives.
